Construction of Quadrilateral when length of three sides and two included angles are given

Construction of Quadrilateral when length of three Sides and two included angles are given: A quadrilateral can be constructed when three sides and two included angles are given to us.We will choose that side to be the base whose both the angles are given to us or we can say the side which is included in the angles. We will follow the steps given below to construct such type of quadrilateral.:

Step 1  Draw a line segment equal to the length of the side which is included in the angles. Let us assume that the angles given to us are angle B and angle C so the side will be BC.

Step 2: With the help of a protactor Draw an angleXBC equal to the measure given to us. We have assumed the angle to be 125 degree.

Step 3: With the help of a protactor Draw an angleYCB equal to the measure given to us. We have assumed the angle to be 80 degree.

Step 4: With B as centre and radius equal the length of AB draw an arc on BX and mark it as A

Step 5: With C as centre and radius equal the length of CD draw an arc on CY and mark it as D
Step 6:  Join AD . The quadrilateral ABCD so obtained is the required quadrilateral.

Example:  Construct a quadrilateral ABCD in which AB = 3.6 cm, BC = 5.5 cm, CD = 5 cm, angle B=125^{circ} and  angle C=80^{circ}

Solution:   Wr first draw the rough sketch of the quadrilateral and indicate on it the data given. We will consider BC as the base as angle B and angle C is given to us, so BC is the included side The following steps of construction will be followed

Steps of Construction:

Step I  Draw BC = 5.5 cm.

Step II  At B construct angle XBC=125^{circ}.

Step III  At C construct angle YCB=80^{circ}, such that X and Y are on the same side of BC.

Step IV With B as centre and radius AB = 3.6 cm, draw an arc to intersect BX at A.

Step V  WIth C as centre and radius CD = 5 cm, draw an arc to intersect CY at D.

Step VI  Join AD.

The quadrilateral ABCD so obtained is the required quadrilateral.
